sans faim is a play about wasted happiness, or, whatever our Western society perceives happiness to be : a psychic and physical well-being that matches up as much as possible to the norms that surround us. Or rather it is about happiness as an ideal, demonstrated through a family that is well-off, full-filled and comfortable, or would be if the world they systematically ignore did not make a violent comeback .

sans faim... (2) distrupts this family’s morality and reason, and in order to survive, it has to redefine normal family powers. They manage to win back a sense of ideal by drawing pleasure and desire from their disappearing happiness. Some said that the 20th century would certainly be religious and should it not be, it never would be again. Here, the family’s regained identity will stand as evidence of the most ancient of forces in preserving a species. The family acts as evidence of a society that sets the example for future societies in protecting only a selected few. What is this kind of happiness we are talking about ?
